Ham Questions:

How do I serve my Heartland Ham?
Heartland Hams are fully cooked and ready to serve. We recommend serving them at room temperature. Just take them out of the refrigerator approximately 45 minutes prior to serving and allow the ham to reach room temperature.

If you prefer to heat your Heartland Ham, pre-heat your oven to 250 degrees. Wrap your ham in foil leaving a small opening at the top. Place a shallow pan of water on the rack below the ham to help maintain moisture. Heat your Heartland Ham for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. Be careful not to overheat. This will cause the ham to dry out.

How do I slice my Heartland Ham?
Bone In Ham
Your bone in ham is already spiral sliced to the bone for easy serving. Take a sharp knife and cut around the bone on the face of the ham. Cut along the natural muscle line. Finally, cut from the bone straight down to the bottom of the ham. Remove slices from the bone and serve.

Boneless Ham Place the ham face down on the cutting surface. Take a sharp knife and cut straight down. Best of all, boneless ham allows you to choose the thickness as you slice it.

How much ham do I need to serve my guests?
Consider first how many guests you will be serving and check our guideline below. Be sure to take into consideration whether you are counting a lot of hearty eaters or small children. Also if you are serving a second entree you may want to use the buffet serving suggestions.
Note, if you want to serve spiral cut ham but have a large gathering consider adding a whole smoked turkey breast to your order to provide a nice choice for your dinner guest. If you wish to order a half ham and turkey breast see our Best of Both Worlds Sampler.

Are your hams fully cooked?
Your Heartland Ham is fully cooked and ready. You may open the package and begin eating or warm the ham and serve immediately.

Can my ham be frozen?
Since our gourmet hams have minimal water added, they freeze wonderfully. After initial use, freeze as soon as possible. You may want to freeze small portions, the whole ham or the bone. To insure that savory taste, freeze no longer than 45 days.

What should I do when I receive a Heartland Ham?
All Heartland Hams are shipped flash frozen. This freezing process locks in all the natural juices and flavor. It also seals our crunchy glaze to the ham. Upon arrival, your ham can be re-frozen immediately. You may also store your ham in the refrigerator for 5-7 days. Once your ham has been refrigerated 5 to 7 days, do not re-freeze.
